Deungnoraegut (Ritual of Lantern Songs) carries the meaningful purpose of lighting up the path ahead for the deities enshrined in the gutdang (ritual hall) as they return to where they came from after completing all the rituals, wishing them a safe and peaceful departure. Deungnoraegut is performed in two distinct segments: Chorongdeung-noraegut (Silk Lantern Song Ritual) and the main Deungnoraegut.
First, Chorongdeung-noraegut features female shamans standing face-to-face in pairs, performing a graceful dance while holding chorongdeung (silk lanterns). This is followed by the main Deungnoraegut, where a female shaman holds a tapdeung (tower lantern), narrates the origin and history of the lanterns, and then performs a dynamic dance by tossing the large tower lantern up and down and spinning it around. It is firmly believed that these lanterns brightly illuminate the road as the deities make their journey back.
