송신제는 강릉단오제의 마지막 제례로 국사성황신과 국사여성황신을 원래 계셨던 곳으로 떠나보내 드리는 의례이다.
장장 40여 일에 걸쳐 진행된 강릉단오제를 정리하면서 국사성황신 내·외분이 잘 흠향하셨기를 바라고, 지역의 번영과 안녕을 기원하는 마음을 담아 제례를 올린다.
이런 간절한 기원이 담긴 송신 제례는 엄숙할 정도로 숙연해지는 분위기를 느낄 수 있다.


Songshinje is the final sacrificial rite of the Gangneung Danoje Festival, a ritual to send back the Guksa Seonghwangshin (the State Preceptor City Deity) and Guksa Yeoseonghwangshin (the Female State Preceptor City Deity) to the places where they originally belonged. While wrapping up the Gangneung Danoje Festival that has been held over a grand span of about 40 days, the sacrificial rite is performed with the wishes that the couple of Guksa Seonghwangshin has well accepted the spiritual offerings (heumhyang) and with a heart praying for the prosperity and well-being of the region. In the Songshin ritual containing such earnest prayers, one can feel an atmosphere so solemn that it becomes genuinely devout.
