올해에는 총 9개 팀이 참여하며 강릉단오제 둘째 날인 6월 16일에는 더베스트김명희무용단, 정강이, 강릉블루비치앙상블, 플롯아모르, 강릉솔향실버예술단의 무대가 펼쳐진다.

[Haslla Rhapsody], named after "Haslla," the ancient name of Gangneung, is an integrated performing arts stage that expresses the region's history and identity with a modern sensibility. Structured in a "rhapsody" format that freely combines music, dance, traditional Korean music (Gukak), and contemporary performance, it showcases another captivating charm of the festival.

This year, a total of nine teams will participate. On June 16, the second day of the Gangneung Danoje Festival, spectacular stages will be presented by The Best Kim Myung-hee Dance Troupe, Jeonggangi, Gangneung Blue Beach Ensemble, Flute Amor, and Gangneung Solhyang Silver Arts Troupe.

[국악밴드 해랑]은 강릉을 거점으로 활동하며 우리 고유의 전통 예술을 현대적인 감각으로 재해석하여 국악의 새로운 패러다임을 제시하는 크로스오버 퓨전 국악 밴드이다.

지역을 대표하는 역량 있는 청년 예술인들이 주축이 되어 결성된 해랑은 전통 음악이 지닌 장르적 한계와 고정관념을 탈피하고 대중들이 일상속에서 국악을 더욱 쉽고 친근하게 공감할 수 있도록 다채로운 창작 활동을 전개하고 있다.

이번 공연은 유네스코 인류무형문화유산인 강릉단오제의 본질 즉 '신명'과 '놀이'를 현대적 감각의 'K-디스코'로 재해석한 작품이다. 1970년대 강릉 청춘들의 뜨거운 열정이 서린 전설적인 공간 를 모티브로 하여 당시의 시대적 향수와 국악의 흥을 결합했다.
가수 전인권 등 당대 최고의 아티스트들이 거쳐 갔던 그 시절의 서사를 바탕으로 뱃노래와 아리랑 등 전통 민요를 펑키한 디스코 리듬에 얹어 관객이 단순한 관람을 넘어 함께 뛰고 즐기는 거대한 난장을 연출했다.

[Gukak Band Haerang] is a crossover fusion Gukak (traditional Korean music) band based in Gangneung that reinterprets our unique traditional arts with a modern sensibility, presenting a new paradigm for Korean traditional music.

Formed chiefly by talented young local artists representing the region, Haerang breaks away from the genre limitations and stereotypes of traditional music. The band engages in diverse creative activities to ensure the public can easily connect with and enjoy Gukak as a familiar part of their daily lives.

"The Millennium-Old Gangneung Danoje Festival, Awakened Once More as a Legendary [Legendary Space]!"

This performance is a creative work that reinterprets the essence of the Gangneung Danoje Festival—a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity—namely, Sinmyeong (vibrant excitement) and Nori (play), into a modern-day "K-Disco." Inspired by [Legendary Space], a legendary venue imbued with the burning passion of Gangneung's youth in the 1970s, it masterfully combines the nostalgia of that era with the infectious excitement of traditional music.

Based on the narratives of those days when top artists of the era, such as singer Jeon In-kwon, passed through this iconic space, it layers traditional folk songs like Baetnorae (Boating Song) and Arirang over funky disco rhythms. This creates a massive Nanjang (a grand, festive marketplace of celebration) where the audience transcends mere viewing to jump, dance, and enjoy themselves together.

1992년 5월, 강원 영동권 최초의 합창단으로 창단된 강릉시립합창단은 지난 30여 년간 수준 높은 공연을 통해 시민과 깊이 교감하며 전문 시립단체로서의 소명을 다해왔다. 음악으로 강릉시민에게 깊은 안식과 예술적 영감을 선사해 온 합창단은, 유네스코 인류무형문화유산인 강릉단오제를 축하하기 위해 다시 한번 특별한 무대를 마련한다.

공연의 서막은 베르디(G. Verdi)의 역동적인 ‘대장간의 합창’과 화려한 ‘축배의 노래’가 장식한다. 이어지는 무대에서는 ‘농부가’와 ‘밀양 아리랑’ 등 정겨운 우리 민요를 합창으로 재해석하여 축제의 흥겨운 한마당을 구현할 예정이다.

나아가 강릉의 고귀한 인문적 자산을 기리는 무대로서, 신사임당과 허난설헌의 시를 창작 합창곡으로 승화시킨 ‘어머님 그리워(사친)’와 ‘봉숭아 잎 물들이며’를 선보인다. 여기에 민초들의 해학과 흥취가 응축된 ‘장타령’을 더함으로써, 정통 클래식과 한국적 서정을 아우르는 강릉시립합창단만의 폭넓은 레퍼토리와 독창적인 예술 세계를 가감 없이 펼쳐 보일 것이다.

본 무대는 2025년 5월 취임한 박종원 상임 지휘자의 풍부한 해석과 지휘 아래 진행된다. 단원들이 빚어내는 조화로운 화음은 관객의 정서를 고양함은 물론, 축제의 장에 생동하는 기운과 깊은 감동을 불어넣을 것이다.

Founded in May 1992 as the first choir in the Gangwon Yeongdong region, the Gangneung Civic Chorale has fully dedicated itself to its mission as a professional municipal organization over the past 30 years, communicating deeply with citizens through high-quality performances. Having provided deep comfort and artistic inspiration to the citizens of Gangneung through music, the choir once again prepares a special stage to celebrate the Gangneung Danoje Festival, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The prelude to the performance will be adorned with G. Verdi's dynamic ‘Anvil Chorus’ and the splendid ‘Brindisi (The Drinking Song)’. In the following stage, friendly traditional Korean folk songs, such as ‘Nongbuga (Farmers' Song)’ and ‘Miryang Arirang’, will be reinterpreted through choral music to create a joyful festive gathering.

What is more, as a stage to honor the noble humanistic heritage of Gangneung, they will present ‘Yearning for Mother (Sachin)’ and ‘Dyeing with Garden Balsam Leaves’, which sublimate the poems of Shin Saimdang and Heo Nanseolheon into original choral pieces. By adding ‘Jangtaryeong (Song of the Marketplace)’, which condenses the humor and zest of the common people, the Gangneung Civic Chorale will fully display its wide repertoire and unique artistic world that encompasses both authentic classical music and Korean lyricism.

This stage will be conducted under the rich interpretation and leadership of Principal Conductor Park Jong-won, who took office in May 2025. The harmonious chords woven by the members will not only elevate the emotions of the audience but also breathe vibrant energy and deep emotion into the festival grounds.

[단오인형극단]은 강릉단오제의 원형 콘텐츠를 활용한 다양한 창작 공연을 위해 만들어진 강릉단오제보존회 부설 전문 인형극단이다. 2009년부터 남녀노소 모두 관노가면극을 쉽고 재미있게 즐길 수 있게 인형극으로 선보이고 있다.
<관노가면인형극>은 대사 없이 춤과 동작을 위주로 한 국내 유일의 전통 무언(無言) 가면극인 강릉단오제 “관노가면극”에 해학과 재치가 넘치는 대사를 넣어 유언(有言) 인형극으로 새롭게 재창작한 작품이다.

대사가 있어 이해하기 쉽고 남녀노소 모두가 관노가면극을 쉽고 재미있게 즐길 수 있는 공연으로 줄인형을 조정하는 사람들과 변사, 악사가 함께 무대를 꾸민다. <관노가면인형극>도 등장인물과 내용 전개는 관노가면극의 구성을 그대로 따라간다.

[Dano Puppetry Troupe] is a professional puppetry company affiliated with the Gangneung Danoje Preservation Association, established to create diverse original performances utilizing the foundational cultural content of the Gangneung Danoje Festival. Since 2009, the troupe has adapted the traditional GwanNo Mask Dance Drama into a puppet show, allowing audiences of all ages to enjoy this rich heritage in a fun and accessible way.

is a creative reimagining of the traditional GwanNo Mask Dance Drama—Korea's only non-verbal mask drama centered on dance and gestures—reborn as a verbal puppet show infused with witty and humorous dialogue.

Thanks to the inclusion of spoken lines, the performance is easy to follow and delightfully entertaining for everyone. The stage is beautifully brought to life through the seamless collaboration of puppeteers manipulating string puppets, a dramatic narrator, and live musicians. True to its roots, faithfully follows the original character lineup and narrative progression of the traditional mask drama.

1985년 중요무형문화재(현. 국가무형유산)으로 지정된 강릉농악은 진주 삼천포농악, 평택농악, 이리농악, 임실 필봉농악, 구례농악, 김천 금릉빗내농악, 남원농악과 함께 전국 8대 농악으로 손꼽힌다.

강릉농악은 농기, 쇄납(날라리), 꽹과리, 징, 북, 장구, 소고, 법고, 무동(사내아이)으로 편성된다. 연주자들은 흰 바지저고리에 홍·청·황의 삼색띠를 두르고 무동들은 여러 가지 색깔이 섞인 옷을 입는다.

강릉농악은 법고와 소고가 구별 지어지고 무동이 많이 편성되는 것이 다른 농악과 다르다. 쇠가락이 소박하고 매우 빨라서 전국에서 가장 빠른 농악으로 꼽히고 있으며, 대부분의 춤을 달리듯 추기 때문에 매우 씩씩하고 활기차 좋다.

강릉단오제 기간 내내 남대천 아리마당에서는 강릉 지역 8개 마을 농악대가 매일매일 돌아가며 신명 나는 공연을 펼친다. 유네스코 인류무형문화유산인 강릉농악의 원형을 간직한 마을 주민들이 직접 선보이는 역동적인 법고 놀이와 소고춤은 단오장을 찾는 관람객들에게 영동 지역 특유의 경쾌하고 파워풀한 에너지를 선사한다.

Gangneung Nongak: The Fastest and Most Spirited Rhythms of Korea
Designated as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 1985 and recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Gangneung Nongak is celebrated as one of South Korea’s eight most prestigious regional farmers’ music styles. It is a living testament to the communal spirit and rhythmic heritage of the nation.

The ensemble is a grand tapestry of sound and color, featuring the nonggi (village flag), the piercing suenap (double-reed wind instrument), and a powerful percussion core of gongs and drums (kkwaenggwari, jing, buk, and janggu). Performers wear traditional white robes adorned with vibrant red, blue, and yellow sashes, while the mudong (child dancers) appear in multi-colored costumes, creating a vivid visual spectacle.

What truly sets Gangneung Nongak apart from other regional styles is its technical structure and sheer velocity. It is unique in its clear distinction between the beopgo and sogo dancers and its incorporation of a large number of mudong. Known as the fastest nongak in Korea, its rhythms are simple yet incredibly rapid. The choreography is famously vigorous; performers often dance as if they are running, exuding a spirited and masculine energy that is both powerful and infectious.

During the Gangneung Danoje Festival, the Ari-madang stage at Namdaecheon Stream becomes the beating heart of the festivities. Every day, eight different village bands from the Gangneung area take turns performing, preserving the authentic original form of this thousand-year-old tradition. Performed by the local residents themselves, the dynamic beopgo plays and sogo dances provide visitors with a direct experience of the cheerful, explosive energy that is characteristic of the Yeongdong

유네스코 인류무형문화유산・국가무형유산인 ‘강릉단오제’ 기간에 연희되던 탈놀이이다. 조선시대 관청에 속했던 노비인 관노들이 하던 가면극으로 신분적 제약 속에서도 해학과 풍자를 통해 이야기를 전했다. 국내 유일의 무언 전통 가면극으로 대사 없이 춤과 몸짓으로만 표현된다.

주요 등장인물은 양반광대, 소매각시, 시시딱딱이 2명, 장자마리 2명이며, 가면극을 이끌어가는 악사들이 등장한다. 전체 5과장으로 이루어지는데 첫째 마당은 장자마리가 등장해 공연의 흥을 돋우고 둘째 마당은 양반광대와 소매각시의 사랑 놀음, 셋째 마당은 시시딱딱이가 이 둘을 훼방 놓고, 넷째 마당은 소매각시의 자살소동으로 한바탕 소동이 일어난다. 끝으로 다섯째 마당은 양반광대와 소매각시의 화해 마당으로 이때 등장인물 모두와 관객까지 함께 어우러져 한바탕 춤을 추고 화합하며 마무리된다. 강릉시에는 다양한 단체에서 관노가면극을 배우고 맥을 이어가고 있으며 매년 단오제에서 자신들의 기량을 뽐내는 자리가 마련된다.

It is a mask play that was performed during the period of 'Gangneung Danoje', a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and National Intangible Heritage. As a mask drama performed by GwanNo (slaves who belonged to government offices during the Joseon Dynasty), it conveyed stories through humor and satire even within social status constraints. It is Korea's only non-verbal traditional mask drama, expressed solely through dance and body gestures without dialogue.

The main characters are Yangban Gwangdae, Somae Gaksi, two Sisi Ttakttakis, and two Jangjamaris, and musicians who lead the mask drama also appear. It consists of a total of five acts: the first act features the appearance of Jangjamari to heighten the excitement of the performance; the second act is the love play between Yangban Gwangdae and Somae Gaksi; the third act shows Sisi Ttakttaki interfering with the two; and the fourth act brings a great commotion with Somae Gaksi's suicide scare. Finally, the fifth act is a scene of reconciliation between Yangban Gwangdae and Somae Gaksi, concluding as all characters and even the audience blend together to dance and harmonize. In Gangneung City, various groups learn the GwanNo Mask Dance Drama and continue its legacy, and every year at the Danoje Festival, a stage is provided for them to showcase their skills.

[Gangneung Minyeochong (Gangneung Branch of the Gangwon Federation of People's Artists)] is a representative artists' organization in the region, operating with about 10 associations including music, dance, literature, magic, modeling, and ocarina. It actively continues its artistic activities through major performance projects—including the Chuseok 'Gangneung Dalmaji (Moon Welcoming) Festival', 'Gangneung Folk Arts Festival', 'A Place Where Music Rests', 'Simgok Port Song Festival', and 'Uri-ot Jang (Our Clothes Market)'—as well as various large and small events hosted by each association.

The is a performance that Gangneung Minyeochong has presented every year in conjunction with the Gangneung Danoje Festival. Inspired by "Suri" from "Surinal," the pure Korean word for Dano, it was named to carry the meaning of "let us enjoy the Dano Festival together." Year after year, it has firmly established itself as a performance festival where both citizens and tourists visiting the Dano festival grounds can heal and enjoy themselves.

This year's is an integrated performance where dance, magic, and music harmoniously blend together. It will present a rich variety of sights and entertainment to the audience at the Dano festival grounds, featuring:

마을의 안녕과 풍요를 기원하던 전통 방식 그대로, 관객과 연희자가 하나 되어 어우러지는 전통연희마당의 뜨거운 축제 현장에서 우리 가락의 진수를 느껴보길 바란다.



The <Traditional Performing Arts Madang (Traditional Yeonhui Madang)>, which anchors the vibrant excitement of the Gangneung Danoje Festival, serves as a living arena for transmitting Nongak (traditional Korean farmers' music) where one can vividly experience Gangneung's deeply rooted community culture. Throughout the festival period, eight village nongak troupes from the Gangneung region take turns daily at the Namdaecheon Ari Madang to deliver exhilarating performances. Presented directly by local residents who preserve the original form of Gangneung Nongak—a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity—the dynamic Beopgo (small drum) play and Sogo (hand drum) dance infuse visitors at the Dano festival grounds with the upbeat and powerful energy unique to the Yeongdong region.

Designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property (currently National Intangible Heritage) in 1985, Gangneung Nongak is counted among Korea's top eight nongak traditions, alongside Jinju Samcheonpo Nongak, Pyeongtaek Nongak, Iri Nongak, Imsil Pilbong Nongak, Gurye Nongak, Gimcheon Geumneung Bitnae Nongak, and Namwon Nongak.
Gangneung Nongak is composed of the Nonggi (farming flag), Swaenap (traditional oboe/nallari), Kkaenggwari (small gong), Jing (large gong), Buk (barrel drum), Janggu (hourglass drum), Sogo (hand drum), Beopgo (small drum), and Mudong (child dancers). The performers wear white pants and jackets adorned with sashes of three colors—red, blue, and yellow—while the mudong are dressed in multi-colored garments.
Unlike other nongak styles, Gangneung Nongak clearly distinguishes between the roles of beopgo and sogo, and features a large number of mudong. The brass rhythmic patterns (Soegarak) are simple yet exceptionally fast, making it recognized as the fastest nongak in the country. Since most of the dancing is performed at a running pace, it is remarkably brave, vigorous, and lively.
As one of the representative Yeongdong nongak styles passed down east of the Taebaek Mountains in Gangwon State, it is also referred to as "Nongsa-puri (Farming Ritual) Nongak" because it includes performances that mimic and reenact agricultural life. Focusing primarily on collective play, Gangneung Nongak plays a vital role in helping people forget the hardships of farming while fostering mutual harmony and village unity.

'단오클라쓰'에 참여하는 팀에는 무상으로 공연에 필요한 무대(강릉단오제전수교육관 공연동)와, 시스템 일체, 온·오프라인 홍보가 제공되며 참가 학생은 참가인증서를 받을 수 있다.지역의 청소년들이 단오클라쓰 무대에 오른 경험이 이후 강릉 시민으로서 강릉단오제의 정체성을 깨닫고 자긍심을 느끼게 할 것이라는 단오DNA 확인 프로젝트라 할 수 있다.


6월 16일에는 소리꼴음악학원, 슈만음악학원‘ 아이캔유캔, 제이드온주니어, 강호태권도의 감미로운 음악과 신나는 무대 공연을 즐길 수 있다.

Dano class is a stage dedicated to local youths, who are the future leaders of the Danoje festival. This event aims to provide instrument recitals and presentation stages for young students enrolled in local arts, music, and physical education academies, with no restrictions on the performance format, which encompasses both music and dance.

Teams participating in 'Dano Class' are provided with a performance venue (The Performance Hall of the Gangneung Danoje Festival Transmission Education Center), full stage systems, and online/offline promotion free of charge, and participating students receive a certificate of participation. This project can be described as a "Dano DNA Verification Project," designed to help local youth realize their identity and feel a sense of pride as citizens of Gangneung through their experience on the Dano Class stage.

On June 16, you can enjoy sweet music and exciting stage performances by Sorikkol Music Academy, Schumann Music Academy, I Can You Can, Jade On Junior, and Gangho Taekwondo.

<동해망상농악>은 400여 년의 깊은 역사를 지닌 마을 공동체 농악으로, 세대를 거쳐 전승된 장단과 놀이가 오늘까지 생생히 이어지고 있다. 해방 전후 유상준 상쇠를 시작으로 최종하, 심상길, 전순영으로 이어지는 전승 계보 속에서 옛 가락과 연희 방식이 온전히 보존되어 왔다.
‘질먹기놀이’, ‘선돌말이’, ‘횃불놀이’ 등 다양한 세시풍속과 함께 펼쳐지는 농악은 질꼬내기 가락의 힘찬 행진과 빠른 외가락, 상모를 돌리는 벅구와 소고잽이의 역동적인 구성으로 관람객의 흥을 돋운다.

또한 서낭당 제의를 중심으로 마을의 안녕과 번영을 기원하는 서낭굿농악 전통을 간직하며, 괴란마을만의 독특한 음악적 색채를 형성해 왔다. 특히 ‘쩍쩍이 가락’, ‘춤추는 쇠’, ‘노는 쇠’ 등 개성 있는 장단과 활달한 춤사위는 동해망상농악만의 매력을 한층 돋보이게 한다.

전통성과 예술성을 인정받아 2007년 한국민속예술축제 대통령상을 수상했고 2017년 강원도무형유산으로 지정되었다.
<동해망상농악>의 판굿은 고청제(서낭굿)-지신밟기-기물놀이-벅구놀이-무동놀이-소고놀이-합동놀이-가세놀이-쩍쩍이-오방놀이-열두발놀이-똘똘말이-황덕굿놀이로 진행된다.

Donghae Mangsang Nongak is a village community nongak (traditional farmers' music) boasting a deep history of over 400 years, with its rhythms and performances passed down through generations remaining vividly alive to this day. Within the lineage of transmission starting with Sang쇠 (lead gong player) Yoo Sang-jun around the time of liberation and continuing through Choi Jong-ha, Sim Sang-gil, and Jeon Sun-yeong, the ancient melodies and performance styles have been preserved intact.

The nongak, which unfolds alongside various seasonal customs such as ‘Jilmeokgi Nori’, ‘Seondol-mari’, and ‘Hwaetbul (Torch) Nori’, heightens the excitement of the audience through the powerful march of the Jilkkonaegi rhythm, the rapid Oegarak (single stroke rhythm), and the dynamic organization of Beokgu (small drum) and Sogo (hand drum) players spinning their Sangmo (ribboned hats).

Furthermore, centering on the Seonangdang (shrine to the village deity) rituals, it preserves the tradition of Seonanggut Nongak which prays for the peace and prosperity of the village, shaping the unique musical color of Goeran Village. In particular, individualistic rhythms such as the ‘Jjeokjjeoki rhythm’, ‘Dancing Swae (Gong)’, and ‘Playing Swae’, along with lively dance movements, further highlight the unique charm of Donghae Mangsang Nongak.

In recognition of its tradition and artistry, it won the Presidential Award at the Korea Folk Arts Festival in 2007 and was designated as a Gangwon-do Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017.

The Pangut (communal courtyard performance) of Donghae Mangsang Nongak proceeds in the following order: Gocheong-je (Seonanggut) – Jisin-balgki (Treading the Earth God) – Gimul Nori – Beokgu Nori – Mudong (Child Dancer) Nori – Sogo Nori – Combined Nori – Gase Nori – Jjeokjjeoki – Obang Nori – Yeoldubal (Twelve-yard Ribbon) Nori – Ttolttol-mari – Hwangdeokgut Nori.
